The city that I live in—Kalama, WA—put out a call for submissions for a new city logo. I created 3 options and a committee chose 2 of my designs along with one of another designer’s and submitted them for all citizens to vote on. The citizens chose this option, a bold and vibrant logo that connects the rich history of this small town to the bright future it is heading towards. The city later hired me to design them a full identity system for use in the city office, new patch for the city’s police officers to wear, and the town flag.

Featuring a modern illustration of the city’s famous landmark, the world’s tallest totem pole carved from a single cedar tree. The totem pole is framed with a beaming sun on the horizon, representing the growth of the city. The totem pole is accented with a traditional native salmon. The colors are dynamic and energetic while still representing the serene nature of this Columbia River adjacent town.
